Born in the West Riding of Yorkshire in 1956, Kevin Clarkson graduated with two graphic design degrees, the second an MA in 1980.
Kevin’s 30 year career as a designer and illustrator encompassed projects varied in scale from a set of commemorative postage stamps for the island of Mauritius to a five meter lobby exhibition panel for GEC Avionics. In 2010 he decided to follow his original passion and became a full time painter.
Working in watercolour and acrylic media his painting subjects are generally landscape, aviation or marine, sometimes with historical themes. Kevin has always had a passion for history, to understand why things are the way they are.
In the 1980s and 90s he sold work largely through galleries in the Channel Islands. His work is represented in a number of private collections in Canada, the Channel Islands, France, the US and the UK.
In 2010 Kevin was awarded a “Highly Commended” at the Patchings Art Festival, sponsored by “The Artist” and “Leisure Painter” periodicals.
Kevin had his first one-man show at the Ignition Gallery, in the Historic Dockyard, Chatham in June 2011. This was followed by a show at St Julians Club in Sevenoaks and at the Portico Gallery also Sevenoaks.
The programme for 2012 includes exhibitions at the Stark Gallery in Canterbury (March to May) an Anti-Thames airport show at the Nucleus Gallery Chatham in April and marine paintings at the Blake Gallery Gravesend in June.
